I have just finalized the re-design of the website for Bend locals' favorite, Pizza Mondo! I
have been fortunate enough to know and always have some kind of a connection to the
Pizza Mondo family since arriving in Bend over 10 years ago. I imagine this, combined
with the fact that it was time to show how my web design skills have improved since my
original go at www.pizzamondobend.com, is the reason behind this design opportunity.
Working closely with everyone who strives to make this business so much more than just
excellent pizza, we were able to pull together a new website that will make your mouth
water and your Twitter updates ring with daily specials!
And yes, cheap marketing ploy on my part …that is me in the photo.
This is a belated update, but I would like to announce that the newly designed website for
SIS NW
is now online. The site design showcases an entirely new brand identity that plays
with a primary
color palette and strong graphic shapes. Content has been re-organized so
that information displays within an easy-to-navigate process.
The company's online Virtual Tour has been recreated as a Flash slide show with photography
provided by Greg Mennegar. This, in addition to updated online capabilities such as an
Employee Application form, will aid in the marketing efforts that focus on providing solutions
to all types of businesses and industries.
Quick brag - hubby & I escaped on a quick getaway to Maui! Words can't possibly describe
the warmth, beautiful landscape and numerous contented sighs that filled my 5 days of vacation.
Not to worry, not only have I returned and hard at work once again, but my Hawaiian mid-80s
have been replaced with a foot of snow and somewhere around 18 degrees.
Happy Holidays!!
Thanks to Lynda.com, I have just completed a 9 hour Search Engine Optimization course
taught by Richard John Jenkins. In addition to web design services, I am now able to offer my
clients assistance with the recommended procedures, design etiquette and world wide web
ins and outs that will work to improve a higher page rank within all of the major search engines.
I am proud to announce the completion of a revamped website design for Swiftcreek Elements.
Artist and owner Greg Erickson had requested a newly designed layout that could better
showcase the extensive collection and present his work in a category format to highlight
the variety of work.
High resolution photography combined with a magnified view feature, allows visitors to get up
close and personal with the materials used to create each piece. I could not have achieved this success without the help of a jQuery plugin created by Marco Renzi - Grazie!
From abstract sculpture to
exact replica to functional metal work, viewers will have plenty
to explore on this website.
Although the original logo design that I had created for Sarah Noce Photography, made me
step back in awe at my own creation (Yay Self!™), we both agreed that in case less is definitely
more. The newly finalized logo that will represent my dear friend Sarah Noce's photography
will be displayed in either solid charcoal or reverse white acting as a watermark for images on
display. Check out more of her work here: www.sarahnoce.com.
I recently completed a new logo design for a business that has transformed from Sun Creek
Homes, Inc. to Choice 1 Builders - Building & Development, headed by Scott Bomstad. The
design utilizes simple geometric shapes combined with a contemporary font style, representative
of a professional, high-end brand identity.
The initial phase of the Choice 1 Builders website is also under way...design, care of moi! At
this point we are building from work showcased within the Sun Creek Homes website. Once
the business has been officially established, we anticipate a full online remodel.

To help commemorate some of the summer activities that took place during the past few
months, I have illustrated various digital photo illustrations. These images are part of both
the Etsy shop online as well as various stock image websites.
The finalized logo design has been officially revealed for Northwest Area Childbirth Educators
Forum, located in Portland. After a few revisions back and forth, members are now represented
by an updated, colorful design that helps represent their mission and efforts for families and educators statewide.
I was just notified that I have won a 2009 American Graphic Design Award from Graphic Design USA! The award recognized the design I created for the Deschutes Children's Foundation 2009
Art & Wine Auction and was designed with a painting by local artist Jacqueline Newbold. The design was recognized from among 8,000 entries nationwide.
I recently had the privilege of creating a logo design for my dear friend Sarah Noce, and could
not have anticipated the success I achieved with the completion of this project. Part of my challenge was to appeal to the tastes of a sophisticated artist with a distinct, edgy, no fear independence who wanted in turn to appeal to her own bridal clientele.
Combining a retro feel through an orange and turquoise color space with feminine lines/florals that wrap a camera lens, immediately presents the business name, type, style and talent in an unforgettable format.
I am nearing the completion of a new website for an adventure travel resource for the state of Oregon. Taking full advantage of a CMS resource online, Squarespace.com, I have developed a custom design layout that presents a weekly newsletter and business content within a simple yet adventurous design style. The primary feature of the website is that it functions on all levels from custom development and CSS access to simple management/update capabilities that can be performed by the client.
Digital art & photo illustrations, including custom graphic design services to create Etsy banner designs (personalize your own shop!) are now available through my own Etsy shop: kate miller
art & design. Please check back as I plan to add new artwork will focus on color series tiles -
build a wall display of identical images (8 x 10″) each with its own color space to decorate any room in your home!
The following websites currently offer some of my digital illustrations:

I am currently working on a new website design project that involves revamping an outdated, generic/template style website into a contemporary fresh and colorful new space that will grow
to represent the organization with an entirely new brand identity.
The initial step was to create a new logo design that anchors the site from the upper left hand corner. From there, the template structure for the overall website follows a primary color pattern where each section is divided into a different color family: reds, orange/yellow, greens, blues and purple. By utilizing this simple yet colorful organizing technique I plan to build visual recognition
that can be interpreted through various marketing pieces for the business.

This logo design concept was created for a new Portland-based business. Taking on the
project presented one major obstacle - I had little information to work with in terms of what
the organization is and who it is representing. The name lends itself to define a firm that is professional, detail oriented and capable of success in the industry. My focus from there was to enhance the identity with a graphic that put emphasis on the key feature - Precision. Based on initial review, the success of this piece is working on a level that adds personality to an overly
stiff business name. It is also an identity that can be translated with various color combinations, easily changing the tone for marketing collateral. Official decision coming soon as to whether
this will be accepted as the brand identity for the new business!

I got my start in design through illustration and have just recently felt the need to utilize my everyday design tools to retrace some of my early artistic talents. The process for each of these images utilizes my own photography in combination with tools from Adobe Illustrator. While I’m enjoying the art of drawing with a new medium, the ultimate goal is to create generic, eye
catching, user friendly vector art that peaks the interest of stock art consumers across the
globe! We’ll see, so far this is an undertaking that requires much greater skill and dedication
than originally anticipated.

A recent contract project involved creating a new logo design for the organization Northwest Area Childbirth Educators Forum. The initial proposal included three concept designs where my intent was to incorporate a representative graphic with the organization’s acronym and full title. The primary goal was to shed light on a group that falls too quickly into stereotypical standards - presenting an identity that would stand apart as an educational resource rather than a woman’s birth/care facility, which it is not. At this point the group is leaning toward the oak tree design (left) finalizing a color combination with the logo that all hope will successfully represent NACEF in the years to come.
A logo and website design has recently been completed for the Bend law firm Elliott, Anderson, Riquelme & Wilson, LLP. The firm’s new logo has been designed with professional simplicity in mind, utilizing a horizontal format to incorporate the lengthy title. The graphic element in combination with the text, is representative of courthouse steps, keeping in line with the industry presented.
The website’s primary purpose is to function on two levels - both as a stylized showcase to
present the overall firm, its mission, location and contact and also as an informative resource
with detail about each partner.
I have just completed the website design for Jenn Fishback Design. This site incorporates
elements that I have worked on in the past but definitely pushed my creativity and web
development skills into a new level.
The Home page opens displaying a Flash animation to showcase the products offered by Jenn Fishback Design. At left, a menu index navigates visitors to various pages within her website
such as information about the designer, ways to contact her, follow her blog and (drum roll…)
five pages that make up the e-commerce section of the website.
Fashion thirsty viewers are treated to detailed product pages that display individual purse descriptions and specs including additional views animated from a Project Seven component.
Shopping cart function and e-commerce management is provided through E-Junkie, a wallet
friendly feature that works for online stores of all sizes.
I have no doubt that this website will sufficiently live up to the shopping demands my client
will soon encounter as her business grows and her popularity as a purse designer expands worldwide!

I am a satisfied customer with my latest business card order from Moo where their product
services offer not only quality, speed, reasonable price - but also variety! My new cards come
in 5 different styles that incorporate a consistent contact layout on the back side with an interchanging graphic background behind my logo on the front side.
I’m very pleased but have to admit that the service works much better for businesses that need
to showcase various product styles. For example, fashion purse designer, Jenn Fishback took
full advantage of these card styles to display a different purse on each business card she hands
out = card + advertisement in one!
Yes, this is a re-post of a project already completed and showcased but you have to
understand that sometimes my perfectionism gets the better of me. In this case, I had an unexplainable itchy/thorn in my side that would not let me get away with the previously
finalized design for the Mountain Bike website. I’m the type of person that goes to great
lengths to cross the finish line and it’s just not the same when you get there by subway.
So, here is my victory lap success! Ahhhh, that feels good.

Marketing efforts are well under way to promote the annual fundraising event to benefit
Deschutes Children’s Foundation. For the third year in a row, I have donated design services
to the creation of printed materials including postcard, poster, invitation, ticket and display advertisements.
The newly designed website for North Fork Landscape, Battle Ground, WA has just been completed. To see the original design (limited time) click here. This website was finalized in cooperation with Anderson Signs.
The website design for Mountain Bike based in Bend, Oregon has recently been re-designed
for a customized look that is geared to better match the sport. Visitors are presented with a
black and gun metal gray layout that incorporates a vertical line of bike cogs to help stylize the
site. Short but sweet, this website conveys an adventurous spirit with a message for why the site exists, how to support the sport of mountain biking with gear sales and a gallery of photos where other riders are invited to share their favorite trails.
Timing couldn’t be better with the latest news that Mountain Bike Action has voted Bend, Oregon the number one mountain bike town in the nation, set to hit the newsstands in the April 2009
issue. Yes folks, we already knew that.

The signs of spring are sproinging and I am overwhelmed with joy! …for now (I’m sure the 20-something degree chill will quickly turn my mood as I head out for an exercise attempt tomorrow morning).
With great anticipation, I welcome a new season that offers to bring change of pace and a
renewed outlook on the dark clouds currently overhead. New and exciting projects are underway and so far guiding me in directions I was never sure I’d travel. I look forward to the outcome in the months ahead but reminding myself to focus on each day and enjoy the small gifts along the way!
I am the proud owner of a new, very unique, handmade, custom designed furry bag by Jenn Fishback. I can’t think of a better way to accessorize than with an innovative mix of color,
faux fur, coordinating & fun fabric linings with stylized handles, clasps or straps!
Styles vary by color, shape and size giving buyers a large design collection to choose from –
best part, at a very reasonable price.
I am in the process of building her new website where visitors will have the ability to shop online
but in the meantime, visit her on Etsy where you can treat yourself to a new purse now!
My latest logo design was created for a company (HOMS, LLC) that is part of a new revolution
of environmentally friendly, safe for the kids & pets, deet-free insect repellent.
I hope that the success of my design will contribute to the sale of these products and make a difference in the lives of mosquitoes everywhere!

My holiday Thank You cards for the year took inspiration from the rich, hot rust color envelopes
I found online. The design follows an earth-harvest feel with organic tones & turquoise highlight,
that give pattern & shape to stylized copy.
My hope with this custom designed card is to give a small gift back to friends & family in
exchange for their holiday kindness.

I had the recent honor to work on a project that introduced me to a new niche I am trying to
take part in – personalized, special event design. This particular design is to commemorate
a 50th wedding anniversary.
My client had provided me with an aged, 4×5″ photograph from her parent’s wedding album.
Her request was to have the image formatted into a digital, high resolution layout that could be embellished with text and design, printed then framed within an 8×10″ picture frame.
Combining color, texture and shape, I worked to create a visual element that almost resembles
an interior space, reminiscent of a feeling the image might evoke. Silk wallpaper, warm lit shadows and unique shapes help to add to the nostalgia and importance of this custom designed piece.
I have been gifted with an Etsy gem by new favorite Noble Studios Ltd.: a pair of beautiful
earrings that thoughtfully match….my tattoo (care of The Gilded Lily Tattoos, Felton, Ca)!
How clever of the sender to focus on a theme that obviously means a lot to me and that I can display on my ears as well as my arm.
One of the best parts, aside from the skilled artistry & jewelry design, was the packaging.
From the label to the antiqued shredded paper mixed with hints of shimmer including personal
note on her business card and a bonus holiday chocolate hidden deep in the bottom! Noble
Studios Ltd. shows great pride and care in the work ensuring excellent customer satisfaction!
